A LOT of snow ...

Simply put...we love snow.  Actually, we go crazy for snow in this house so when it began to come down on Tuesday after Emily's VIP day we rushed outside to catch a few flakes.  I didn't even stop to put on their snow gear because I figured it wouldn't last long and didn't want them to miss out on a single flake.   Little did we know what was heading our way...
We spent Tuesday evening hanging out with Auntie Jenny and soaking up every last minute of our time with her...
On Wednesday Auntie Jenny headed home a little early because the snow was coming down pretty good and she didn't want to make her long drive home even longer.  We PLEADED and  PLEADED for her to stay for the remainder of her mid-winter break but we eventually lost our pleas to Uncle Zach's requests.

It snowed about 6 inches or so on Wednesday and schools, including preschool, were closed for the day.  Bryan still went into work for the day while the kids and I played at home.

Emily built her own little snowman all by herself...
...while Jack meandered around.  I will have to apologize to him in his later years for sticking pink gloves on him but I couldn't find his anywhere and he was eager to get outside...
They finished off the day with a few snow angels then came inside for some hot chocolate with pink and green marshmallows...
It snowed all night and for the next few days.  On Thursday Bryan measured 17 inches in the backyard!  It was a little deep for Jack to walk around in but somehow he manged to trudge through it for a while before Bryan had sympathy and took both of the kids for a few rides on the sled...
Jack likes the snow but doesn't love the cold so after about an hour he decided to come inside, have his favorite snack and try out his new engineer hat on Thomas...
Emily made some last minute snow cones and then headed inside as well...
This is what the poor garbage men had to deal with on Friday morning...
On Sunday we didn't find our way to church but we did find our way to Chuck Wagon and then set off to scout out some good sledding hills.  After a while of searching we decided that the prime hills were looking fairly popular and were a little too steep for our crew.  Maybe we will hit those slopes in a few years but for now we resorted to our own neighborhood...
A few sledding videos...

After an afternoon of sledding we came back home, warmed up with more hot chocolate and then headed to the backyard to make this little penguin an igloo.  She has been reading one of my favorite books from when I was little about a penguin who sets sail in an igloo so she was super excited to get her very own igloo built...
Daddy did most of the ground work with a little assistance from the kids...
As usual Jack decided that the ice bricks made better train tracks than layers to an igloo...
While Emily and Bryan worked hard Jack decided it would be a good time to hit Daddy with some snowballs...
Emily was titled "the fixer" and went around to each block, checking and fixing any that had crumbled.  The snow kept getting in her eyes so she requested a pair of goggles to help her work better...
Back inside Charlie was staying warm and snacking on some bananas. He is kind of over the whole baby food thing and really wants substantial food that he can pick up and pile in his mouth all by himself...
When I checked back outside the igloo was finally completed.  Apparently Emily had decided that it couldn't possibly be an igloo without a roof so Bryan found her one and finished it up...
The kids played and played in the igloo and had a few more rides on the sled beforel we dragged them inside for the evening.  I think some of you in Nooksack may have heard their screaming pleas to stay out a little longer...
That night the snow gradually began to melt.  A week later we still have a little snow but most of it has disappeared.  The remnants of the igloo are still scattered all over the yard, thanks to the high winds, and the muddy grass has finally fought its way through.  There have been many tears over the vanishing snow but they were quickly dried with the hope of spring and ventures to the tulip fields for long days of tractor rides and face painting.  This momma, although a love of snow, is ready for our spring days.
