Valentine's Day VA...CA...TION...

I really thought we would just do our usual routine for Valentine's Day... eat heart shaped pancakes, make some more cookies and do some crafts, eat heart shaped grilled cheese, open some small gifts, do some more V-day activities and then gorge ourselves with heart shaped meatloaf.

But to all of our surprise Bryan decided at the last minute that we just needed to get away and booked us a weekend up at Semiahmoo Resort. We are more of the camping type but with all of the stress this year a weekend away sounded wonderful. Seriously, who would pass up daily room service, playing at the beach, swimming in a pool and for momma, a spa treatment to die for!

The first morning we were there it rained a little but it didn't seem to phase the kids one bit!

Rain puddles are a must and Emily was so excited that this was a good time to jump in them!

We spent the rest of that evening watching the Olympics while the kids watched some Disney movies on the portable DVD player. Dinner was room service again. Who wants to eat around a bunch of romantic couples? We were much happier spending time together as a family in our cozy room.

The next morning was Valentine's Day and the kids were super excited. There were no heart shaped pancakes but toast with lots of jam and french toast did the trick!

Then the kids sat down in their big cozy chair and opened some little gifts. We are really trying to get away from collecting more "stuff" so I went easy on the gifts and waited until we got home to unleash the big daddy gift...

Then we headed back down to the beach to catch a little sun while it was out...

Then we piled in the car and headed back home. We still had time for some traditional food...heart shaped grilled cheese for lunch and heart shaped meatloaf (this is at Bryan's request) for dinner...

That evening I brought out the big daddy gift...a felt slip cover playhouse that fits very nicely over our card table. Here are a few of it's features...

• The front door and mail box open on the front side
• There is a window with drapes that fold back, an apple tree, and a planter box to put flowers in and out of
• There is a dog door in back
• There is a garden with pumpkins and carrots that are removable

This was a HUGE project but totally worth it. They have played in it every day since!
All in all it was a weekend I will never forget. Semiahmoo has so many memories for us as a family. Really it all begin here for us when Bryan proposed to me here on Mike and Beth's sailboat. Then we took the kids here last spring for their 6 month and 2 1/2 year old pictures with the SnapSisters. This weekend just added many more amazing memories and we are looking forward to many many more!
