waiting.preparing.waiting some more.

Both of the kiddoes were so excited for Christmas this year.  The decorations made their way throughout our home well before Thanksgiving.  We acted out the story of Jesus's birth every day, added ornaments to the Advent calendar, baked, made presents, spent time with family and friends, oohed and awed over Christmas lights each night and enjoyed each day of Daddy's two week vacation (the first he has ever taken...ever)...

EVERY night at 7pm we packed the kids in the car and head to "Christmas Light Land" to see all the pretty lights.  Emily started calling it this last year and the name stuck as well as our routine route...

This picture does not do this house justice.  There are thousands of lights draped to the top of each tree, reaching at least 40 feet in the air.  Every year I wonder how they get them all the way up there...
We did some holiday crafting and made ornaments for family...
After the dough had baked, cooled and dried over night Emily decided to start painting a few before she broke out the hot pink glitter...
Jack painted a little as well, hence the painted shirt, but was easily distracted with his trains...

I loved this project because Emily did the entire thing all by herself.  She measured and mixed the dough, cut out the shapes that she wanted and did all of the painting on her own...
We went to a few basketball games here and there but our favorite one was watching Cousin McKinna play in Burlington...
We had a play date at Olivia's house and the Martinez girls made it as well.  Emily, along with the other girls, was absolutely mesmerized with the makeup and fingernail polish...
Olivia entertained Charlie....
...and Jack entertained himself...
We had a few sweet morning breakfasts consisting of donuts and other sweet treats...
...and the kids played outside whenever possible.

Emily rode her new bike, with a little assistance from Uncle Mike, for over 3 miles.  After they had disappeared for about an hour and a half we went searching for them and found them far, far away at "our park."  I am not too sure what I was more surprised about...Emily knowing how to get to "our park" or the fact that she was still peddling strong and had no intention of stopping!

The kids spent a lot of quality time with Uncle Mike.  It amazes me how the kids have the ability to not see him but a few times a year but as soon as he walks through the door they are stuck to him like glue.  Jack fell asleep on him like this twice during his two week visit...a rare event for Jack in general.  This picture truly illuminates the love they are full of for him...
We spent many days with Grandma Emily as well...
We had a lot of fun getting ready for Christmas and even more fun celebrating once it was finally here. (Those posts are in the works).
