January randomness...

The kids and I have been feeling some serious cabin fever this January.  The rain and cold has kept us inside most of the time and Mommy the Entertainer has been searching for some inspiration to keep these littles occupied.  On top of the cabin fever, Emily came down with a serious sinus/ear/eye infection after just a few days back at preschool.  To help keep her mind off of it and make her feel better I suggested making (aka sewing) her own rice bag.  She picked out the fabric, filled it and sewed it all by herself.  She was one proud little girl...
The kids have been using their dinosaur towels every day.  They sure have helped the transition out of the tub get a whole lot easier!
By far, the kids' favorite activity has been the puppet theater.  I am summoned for performances ALL DAY LONG and I can seriously say that my cheeks and belly ache from all of the laughter...
Grandma and Grandpa Jones paid us a visit on last Sunday night and the kids were over the moon excited to see them...
After showing them their new Leap Pads they took them into Emily's room for a performance.  Emily had been working on it all day.  She heaved the kid chairs all the way up the stairs, covered a stool and set out a money jar for people to pay their admission.  This little girl never ceases to amaze me...
The following day we decided to have a whole day dedicated to ART.  I took out every single art supply from every single container and let the kids go at it...
On Tuesday the sun came out so I finally set this little boy free.  He had been pounding at the back door for weeks, eager to get into the sand and dirt but with the weather so yucky I had made him stay inside.  He stayed out there for a solid hour while the rest of us stayed warm inside (don't worry, I watched him through the window as I did my millionth load of dishes by hand)...
Back inside the kids and I played lots of board games and Emily amazed me again with her reading abilities.  Auntie Jenny sent her a whole set of Magic Tree House books with intentions of Bryan and I reading them to her at night.  She was so excited that she picked it up and started reading it FLUENTLY to Uncle Mike while we were Skyping.  I think I literally had to pick my jaw back up.

One of my favorite things right now is watching her read books to her brothers.  There is just something so tender about watching them listen to her read the words...
I raided my mom's garage last week and found some long lost board games that needed some playing.  Twister was immediately a favorite!  It is great for working on right/left with Emily, practicing the colors with Jack and introducing them to Charlie.  I have to say that Charlie was more interested in busting out dance moves on the circles than paying attention to the colors but it was all the more entertaining...
Grandpa Jim stopped by after physical therapy and was quickly designated the color spinner/caller...

Hangman is Emily's FAVORITE game.  She is an amazing little speller and begs to play this game all day long...
Jack favors LIFE and SCRABBLE.  He like to drive around the people in the little cars and count his money with the LIFE game pieces and SCRABBLE aids his passion with letters...
His favorite phrase right now is..."J...A...C...K...that spells Jack"...
My mom got Emily this fabulous knife at Gretchen's.  It is perfect for "Tiana" (you know, the only Disney princess who is an aspiring chef) to help be my sou chef.  Her job is to cut the carrots, cucumber and lettuce for the salad..
On Friday the kids picked out their own clothes for the day and we had a fabulous tea party...
"Charlie the Chugger" can down a cup of "tea" faster than anyone...
On Friday evening we had pizza night.  The kids all made their own pizzas and they practiced being pizza chefs with the left over dough.  Emily did a pretty good job getting hers high in the air while the boys had a more direct throw straight at me...
On Saturday the kids and waited around the house while Bryan headed to Seattle to take the G.R.E.  For those of you who don't know, he is applying to get into a doctorate program.  It is a huge commitment for all of us but we could not be prouder!  While I can say that I am content with a master's degree, Bryan has an ambition for learning that is endless.  He is quite the role model for these little kiddoes!
